Objective

Cloud platforms offer a wide variety of services to support application development and infrastructure but also incur costs. You will understand how and where the costs of cloud services form. You will understand the different pricing models, execution methods and opportunities for cost savings in cloud services. You will know and understand the scalable and elastic nature of cloud services, and how they enable a quick and innovating way to develop new services or products. Furthermore, you will understand the rules of cloud scaling and economics, as well as the possibilities for utilising cloud services in terms of innovative and fast product development.

Weeks 35-39, 5 lectures in main campus.

Material written by the teacher can be found at Moodle. Any AWS Academy Learning material or additional cloud economy books can be used as additional material.

Teaching methods

- Lectures and labs in-class (zoom possible if remote students)
- Exercises (individual and group assignments)
- Final exam

The primary mode of delivery is a combination of in-class activities on campus (on-line lectures as a backup). The in-class activities deepen the learning in the forms of tutorials, individual and group works, reflection and guidance. However, if the COVID-19 situation requires the learning will be supported by on-line tutorials.

Practical training and working life connections

A lecture by IBM is planned for the course.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The final exam is held at the end of the course. Renewal opportunities will be announced at the beginning of the course.
