Objectives
You will become familiar with the basic quantities and laws of electrical engineering and learn to apply them to simple calculations of direct and alternating current circuits and laboratory measurements. You know the basic calculation of connected 3-phase circuits and you know the power triangle. You will learn the basics of electrical safety and become familiar with electrical drives in industry.
Knowledge and understanding
You have knowledge and understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles of electrical engineering. You will understand the operation of a resistor, coil, and capacitor as part of an electrical circuit, as well as the power triangle of alternating current.
Engineering practice
You master the basic calculation and its quantities of connected three-phase circuits. You understand the basic structures and operating principles of electrical machines and are aware of their most common uses. You have a basic knowledge of the selection and control of electric drives. You know how to work safely in an electrical laboratory environment.

Teaching methods
Problem-based learning is used as a learning method. Learning takes place through independently solved and returned learning tasks. The completion of learning tasks is guided by video instructions and contact lessons.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
1: You know the most important laws of electrical engineering and are able to solve simple calculations of electrical circuits. You recognize the basics and terminology of electrical machines, but it's challenging to interpret the key points.
2: You know the basic principles of electrical engineering and know how to solve simple electrical engineering problems. You know and understand the basics and structures of electric drives and their controls, but application in practice is challenging.
Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)
3: You have knowledge and understanding of the theory of DC and AC circuits and are able to apply your skills to basic circuit calculations. You know the basics of electric drives and you understand what things to consider when choosing components for electric drives.
4: You have knowledge and understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles of electrical engineering and are able to independently apply different methods to electrical engineering problems. You master the basics of electric drives and know how to apply knowledge in the selection of components for electric drives.
Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)
5: You have a strong knowledge and understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles of electrical engineering and are able to outline entities. You master the basics of electric drives and know how to apply knowledge by outlining various alternative functional total solutions.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of mathematics (e.g. solving the first degree equation) and physics
