Objective
Purpose of the course
You will learn the basics of chemistry to understand the chemical behavior of different building materials and understand the basics of building technology such as corrosion of metals and concrete. You will also learn logical thinking and problem solving.
Learning outcomes of the course
EA-KW EUR-ACE Knowledge and understanding: You understand the basics of chemistry in construction.
EA-EC EUR-ACE Applying Technology to Practice: You can apply chemical phenomena to solve practical problems using well-established calculation methods.
EA-MC EUR-ACE Multidisciplinary Knowledge: Understand the environmental and economic implications of chemistry
Learning outcomes in the course
After completing the course, you will be able to calculate the quantities of substances, their volumes and / or masses, and you will be able to manage the concentration calculation. You will understand the essential information contained in the chemical reaction equation and apply it to pH, concentration, and combustion calculations, as well as oxidation-reduction calculations.
Content
The following topics are covered in the course:
Basics of Chemistry. Atomic structure, cyclic system of elements, chemical bonds, polarity, oxidation index, amount of substance, state of matter, mixtures, chemical reactions, chemical equilibrium, energy production and combustion, and especially chemistry related to construction engineering such as oxidation, corrosion, solvents, paints, adhesives, concrete
