Objective

Purpose of the course

After completing this course, you will be able to make your working environment in agriculture and forestry safer. You recognize the loads and hazards of your operating environment and can protect yourself from these with personal protective equipment. As an employee, you know the responsibilities of labor protection for your own work on the farm and in forestry. As an employer, you know your company's labor safety responsibilities and understand the importance of employee well-being at work for sustainable production.

- Evaluate, develop and take into account occupational safety in the agricultural environment and understand the importance of well-being at work.
- You take into account the special features of occupational safety in crop production. You can handle plant protection products and fertilizers safely.
- You know how to work safely with farm animals. You will recognize signs of safe conditions in your production premises and be able to handle chemicals related to production. When moving animals, you understand the safe handling of them.
- In machine work, you understand the importance of ergonomics. You can identify crushing, noise, dust and chemical hazards in machine work. You will be able to recognize the importance of the safety equipment for different machines and the safe use of lifting and handling equipment.

Forestry Skills

Work load factors, risk management, safety factors related to machinery, animals and lifting.
Working in enclosed and confined spaces.
Chemicals and protection.
Occupational health and well-being.
Safety cards (Occupational / Hot works), Plant protection certification

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The assessment of the course is quantitative. The course consists of two written assignments which are assessed as pass / fail.
The total score of the course is 70 and consists of 10 online assignments:
Every excercise needs to be done and eight excercises must be passed (min. 50% of the exercise points)
The points for all tasks are added together.
The grade is formed as the total percentage of the points as follows:
- Both written assignments need to be accepted
- >=50%, Grade 1
- >=60%, Grade 2

You recognize the loads and hazards of your operating environment and can protect yourself from these with personal protective equipment. As an employee, you know the responsibilities of labor protection for your own work on the farm and in forestry. The student understands the significance of occupational safety and knows the occupational safety risks regarding machines, production animals and forest work within the field of agriculture. The student understands the occupational safety factors of physical manual labour. The student understands the occupational safety factors regarding chemicals. The student is familiar with the operational safety bulletin and its significance. The student is familiar with occupational safety and health and knows the essential parts of the occupational safety and health act from the point of view of the employer, regarding both paid work force as well as voluntary work force. The student also is familiar with the statutes of occupational safety and health related to the employee and understands that the employee has the right to turn down dangerous tasks. The student is familiar with the essential protective gear. The student is familiar with occupational health care and the significance of work-related well-being.

Study assignments and exercises have one actual assessment date and two correction recovery days. There is no exam in the course.
