Objective
The aim of the course is increasing your understanding and experience of guidance competence in client work as well as methods used in client work and their development.

Intended learning outcomes:
You work professionally and dialogically in interactive situations and are able to reflect critically on your actions. You identify and evaluate risks and protective factors related to well-being. You apply and evaluate the work orientations and methods of social counselling when working with clients, groups and communities in different operating environments. You understand the significance of psychosocial support and know how to deal with different change and crisis situations of a client.
You are familiar with the operating principles of the public administration’s decision-making system and know how to use them to promote the interests of a client. You promote the inclusion and opportunities for participation of clients, client groups and communities and are able to engage in structural advocacy work in society.
You are capable of proactive and innovative problem-solving in social services development. You develop and analyse client work practices, methods and service processes, drawing on research evidence and experience-based information.
Content
Practical training in client work in a social services operating environment. If you are studying for a Bachelor of Social Services in Early Childhood Education degree, you will complete the practical training in a child welfare operating environment.
The core content of the practical training comprises client work and its planning, performance and evaluation, taking the client's participation into account. As part of goal-oriented client work, you use, evaluate and develop work orientations and methods of social services.
Qualifications
You are familiar with the service system of social services and education as well as the ethical principles of the field, and know how to follow them. You are able to describe your professional interaction and interprofessional cooperation and follow the principles of professional interaction. You know how to describe the planning, performance, evaluation and documentation of guidance work with individuals and groups, taking the ethical principles, legislation and services of the field into account. You are able to plan, deliver, evaluate and document guidance of individuals and groups, taking into account the ethical principles, legislation and services of the field.

Osaat toteuttaa suunnitelmallista ja tavoitteellista asiakastyötä sekä arvioida sitä asiakkaan osallisuus, alan eettiset periaatteet ja lainsäädäntö huomioiden. Osaat kertoa toiminnastasi ja arvioida sitä. Osana tavoitteellista asiakastyötä osaat käyttää sosiaalialan työorientaatioita ja menetelmiä ja kuvata niitä tutkimustietoa hyödyntäen. Osaat arvioida ja kehittää työorientaatioita ja menetelmiä sekä kertoa niistä osana harjoitteluasi.
