The students know the opportunities for a sustainable utilization of domestic biomass resources for energy. They are able to determine the amount of biomass producible in a specific area of field, forest and swamp, and to select the production methods suitable for each target. They are familiar with the environmental impacts of energy raw material production and use, and can select solutions which influence the sustainability of production.

The students know the most important solid and liquid biofuels and their production. They are able to estimate the raw material flows of pellet and briquette factories, the field area required and the prerequisites in the Finnish climate.
