Learning outcomes of the course
The student can design and implement a Linux server based on service requirements. The student understands the requirements of modern organisations and the services used in Linux servers to meet them. The student can implement these services on modern Linux distributions.
The course includes the structure, architecture, operating principles, service configuration and maintenance tasks of Linux operating system.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must have knowledge of Linux operating system gained from the professional studies of his (her) specialization option, practical skills to utilize the command prompt and basic studies in network technologies in order to pass the course.
Assessment criteria - grade 1 and 2
Sufficient 1: The student can use base configuration as a prototype for a service. The student can provide a working example for the service required. The student can handle basic tasks for service installation and management.
Satisfactory 2: The student can take existing configuration and apply it to the given use case. The student is able to provide a simple service for a generic use case in the organisation. The student is able to configure generic software and system parameters for a Linux server.
Assessment criteria - grade 3 and 4
Good 3: The student can apply known good configuration sets and design a server using these parameters as help. The student is able to provide standalone services with their skillset. The student can install and configure this service for most generic use cases.
Very good 4: The student is able to gather information and design a Linux server that provides a certain service. The student knows how to integrate their solution to an existing organisation network. The student is able to configure and maintain a generic Linux server.
Assessment criteria - grade 5
Excellent 5: The student is able to critically assess and analyze the existing solutions for Linux services and design a working server based on the given requirements. The student is able to provide a new solution to an organisation network. The student is able to configure and maintain a secure and practical Linux server independently.
