Learning outcomes of the course
The students recognize the dimensions of responsibility and sustainability in tourism. The students understand the meaning of responsibility in tourism development in regional, national and global perspectives. The students understand the basics of stakeholder and system thinking approaches in the tourism development. The students can utilize selected tools for tourism development, especially those relevant for responsibility. Student can analyze and evaluate the key issues involved in supply, demand and marketing of responsible tourism.
Dimensions of responsibility in tourism (social, economic, cultural and environmental responsibility)
Regional, national and international perspectives of responsible and sustainable tourism
Stakeholder and system thinking approaches in Responsibility in the tourism development and in tourism services
Analyzing and evaluating responsibility of tourism
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student understands the concepts related to service and business operations and has basic customer competence. The student understands how the tourism industry has developed and what it comprises in Finland or/and abroad. The student understands the general concepts and phenomena related to tourism.
Assessment criteria - grade 1 and 2
The student manages, in addition to the core competence required for grades 3 (Good) and 4 (Very good), analytical and critical examination. The student displays particular innovativeness and particular ability to manage the issues of responsible tourism in multidisciplinary and comprehensively.
4 (Very Good)
The student utilises the concepts, special characteristics and global perspective related to responsible tourism. The student has contributed to the knowledge of the stakeholder and system thinking approaches knows responsible tourism stakeholders in all levels and multidisciplinary. The student’s reporting is clear, illustrative comprising a multitude of sources and analytical examination.
The student has gained a good understanding of the concepts and special characteristics related to responsible tourism by utilising theoretic source material and practical examples. The student has contributed to the knowledge of the stakeholder and system thinking approaches in responsible tourism also in global perspective. The student’s reporting is structured, contemplative and illustrative comprising a multitude of sources.
The student demonstrates that he/she understands the concepts and special characteristics related to responsible tourism both in theory and in practice. The student has contributed to the knowledge of the stakeholder and system thinking approaches in responsible tourism also in national perspective addition to organizational and regional perspective. The student’s reporting is descriptive, unstructured and in part illustrative.
The student has gained some understanding of the concepts related to responsible tourism. The student’s diverse specification and application of the concepts remain insufficient. The student has contributed to the knowledge of the stakeholder and system thinking approaches in responsible tourism only in a limited way. The student’s reporting is descriptive and unstructured and illustration is poor.
