Objective

Lab-environments are JAMK's new way to strengthen your pedagogical skills and competences. In this course you are able to participate in structured and supported pedagogical development projects and deepen your pedagogical skills. The projects can be related to improvement of pedagogical activities, participation in research or development and innovation (R&D&I) activities. Projects can be offered by the School of Professional Teacher Education or by your own organisation.

Course competences
In PEDA Lab course you are able to develop future competence, development competence, agency competence and interaction competence by participating in supported development activities, reflecting on them and publishing the results.

You will get an opportunity to utilise experiential learning and to become familiar with the basic principles of Design-Based Research. You are capable of applying user-oriented and innovative methods in planning focused development projects. You are able to create an implementation plan based on the principles of Design-Based Research. You are able to work constructively in multidisciplinary development teams, and disseminate the results of the activities.

Content

During this course, you will explore how to design and create a pedagogical development project and how to make an implementation plan. You will discover the basic principles of Design-Based Research and to apply it in your own work context.

Oppimateriaali ja suositeltava kirjallisuus

Learning material and literature will be found in the online learning environment. They will vary and expand depending on the theme of the project and during the process of the development project.

Teaching methods

You can demonstrate the competence required by this course by completing the agreed project, by attending the PEDA Lab tutoring discussions and by publishing and disseminating the results of the development project. You also have the possibility to apply for a digital badge indicating competence in development work.

Student workload

In total, the course consists of 135 hours (5x27h) of students’ work.
- Personal competence development discussions and tutoring and reflections and publication (13 h)
- Independent literature and validation of up-to-date sources of information, research and reports relevant to the development project (13h)
- Working on the agreed pedagogical project based (109h)

Content scheduling

During this course, you will explore how to design and create a pedagogical development project and how to make an implementation plan. You will discover the basic principles of Design-Based Research and to apply it in your own work context. The process has four steps: tutoring discussion and the creation of your personal competence development plan; familiarization with the Design-Based Research method and project relevant information search; implementation of your development project; dissemination of the results by using the publication channels offered by JAMK and by your own work organisation.
