Objective

The Student knows how to examine and analyze the preconditions and limitations for the functioning of a neurological client/rehabilitation patient, particularly the client’s locomotion. He /She knows how to apply evidence-based impact methods for physiotherapy in cases related to impairments of the central and peripheral nervous system. Student can utilise assistive technology to support the physical activity and functioning of clients

Content

Assessment of the functioning of a neurological client and the scope of rehabilitation. The ability of physiotherapy to affect neurological and cognitive symptoms and psychomotor changes e.g. problems related to tonus, coordination, attention, communication and memory, which are caused by disorders to different parts of the nervous system. The special characteristics of physiotherapy for child and adult clients with neurological disorders. (Premature babies, cerebral palsy and attention deficits, ADHD, children with Spina Bifida, neuromuscular diseases and autism. Stroke, brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease, MS and spinal cord injury patients, as well as patients with neuropathy or an injury to the peripheral nervous system.)

Therapeutic exercises and ability to instruct exercise groups. Physical therapy for functional impairments of metabolism, the respiratory system and circulatory system, as well as a Wellness technology and environment planning.
