Objective

Skills in technical drawing and CAD design provide the ability to transfer design product information and manufacturing technical knowledge digitally in various fields of technology. Mastering CAD design and knowing the markings on drawings are the foundation for an engineer’s day-to-day performance of work tasks.Digityalization is very important subject.

You will learn to draw different projections of a part by hand and with the help of a computer, as well as different sectional views. You will learn to make standard drawing markings on drawings, such as dimensions, surface markings, welding markings, and various tolerances.

In addition, you will learn to understand the importance of item and product information management. Your skills will develop from an understanding of basic concepts to applied technical drawing tasks.

Knowledge and understanding:
You have an understanding of the importance of technical drawing in preparing unambiguous documents for design, production and sales.

Engineering practice:
You can read ready-made drawings and make unambiguous working drawings of machine parts or other products. You control a CAD system that allows you to produce working and assembly drawings. You will understand the importance of product management and revision in design.

Multidisciplinary competences:
After the course you will be able to attach pictures and technical documents to your assignments and theses. You will have the necessary knowledge and skills to start working in ancillary design tasks.

Content

Basics of technical drawing: drawings and scales, projections, line types, dimensioning, surface marks, welding marks, fittings and geometric tolerances.
CAD software: Drawing parts both manually and with the help of a computer. Computer-aided modeling of individual parts and assemblies.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

The overall assessment consists of 60% of the exam and 40% of the learning assignments. To receive a numerical grade, a student must take a supervised exam. The examinations are held three times a year in accordance with the degree rule. If a remote exam is arranged, the student must have a printer and scanner available. Photo submissions are not accepted.

Adequate (1): You are familiar with technical drawing terminology and drawing symbols. You can produce drawings by copying annotations from finished drawings, but you have difficulties interpreting the annotations and lacks in putting them into practice.

Satisfactory (2): You are familiar with technical drawing terminology and drawing symbols. You are able to produce drawings independently, but you have lacks in the practical application of technical drawing standards.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

Good (3): You are familiar with the drawing symbols of technical drawing and know how to apply them in practice. You can take advantages of the features of CAD programs and produce drawings in accordance with standards. In addition, you understand the importance of project scheduling and product management in planning.

Very good (4): You are familiar with the drawing symbols of technical drawing and are able to apply them comprehensively in practice. You can make extensive use of the features of CAD programs and produce drawings in accordance with standards. The drawings may have some minor flaws or slightly misinterpretation possibilities. In addition, you have a good command of the basics of project scheduling and the use of items in planning.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You know the drawing symbols of technical drawing and know how to apply them professionally in practice. You can make extensive use of the features of CAD programs and produce standard drawings with correct symbols. You also have a versatile control over the use of the ISO tolerance system and geometric product specification in machine drawing. In addition, you have a good command of the basics of project scheduling and the use of items in planning.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You have completed all the assignments and received 50% of the points from the exam.

Qualifications

No prior knowledge required.

Further information

Studies are offered in parts of one credit point through the open university of applied sciences also as a review for engineers who have already graduated and through CampusOnline for students from other polytechnics. The course can be offered outside of degree programs without a supervised exam with passed-failed assessment.
