Objective

The students know the most common forms of electricity production and the future prospects of the field. They understand the basic structure of an electricity transmission and distribution network and know its components. They know the basic components used in high-voltage engineering and their applications. They know the basic protection methods used in an electricity transmission and distribution network, e.g. short-circuit and earth-leakage relay protection. They recognise the demands that distributed electricity production sets on the control and structure of an electrical power system.

TSASO – Design competence
The student knows the methods and tools of hardware and software design in electrification.
The student is able to dimension and select machines and components using techno-economic principles.

TSASV – Competence in electric power systems
The student has the knowledge of the general network of electricity distribution and buildings’ electrical network.
The student is able to size the components for network of electricity distribution and buildings’ electrical network.
The student has the knowledge of the protection and operation supervision of machines and devices of electricity distribution and electric systems.

EA-EE: Engineering design
The student has an understanding of design methodologies and an ability to use them.

Exam schedules

The dates and methods of the midterm exams will be announced in the course opening information.

Vaihtoehtoiset suoritustavat

The admission procedures are described in the degree rule and the study guide. The teacher of the course will give you more information on possible specific course practices.

Student workload

One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the course implementation.

Further information

Self-assessments are mainly done through learning tasks. The assessment decision is based on the skills demonstrated in the exercises and midterm exams.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

Adequate (1): The student identifies the basic knowledge and terminology but in the interpreting of the essential concepts the skills are still inadequate.

Satisfactory (2): The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology but in the application of the essential concepts the skills are still inadequate.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

Good (3): The student:
- knows the most common forms of electricity production.
- understands the basic structure of an electricity transmission and distribution network and know its components.
- knows the basic protection methods used in an electricity transmission and distribution network, e.g. short-circuit and earth-leakage relay protection.

Very good (4): The student masters the essential knowledge and can apply the knowledge.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): The student masters the essential knowledge and can apply the knowledge acquired in a creative and innovative manner.
