Objective

The purpose of this course is to make students familiar with analyzing the essential factors and strategies that affect COVID-19 prevention and management in both national and global levels. In summer 2021, you will be familiar with analyzing COVID-19 data.

The course is targeted to Bachelor's level students.

Learning outcomes:
You master analyzing the impacts of adoption strategies of prevention and management of corona pandemic in both national and global levels. You master the analysis of pandemic severity due to patient hospitalizations and mortality as well as estimating the needed medical staffing in the peak of pandemic among different healthcare systems in a cross-national data analysis. You are able to plan and implement comparative analysis of the burden of corona pandemic between developed countries with considering the determinant factors like social distancing and the level of infection monitoring due to coronavirus testing.

- Analyzing pandemic severity due to patient hospitalizations and mortality in national level using The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) / University of Washington, COVID-19 Projections data
- Estimating the number of medical staffs needed to provide the proper care in the peak of pandemic in national level using IHME, COVID-19 Projections data
- Comparative analysis of burden of corona pandemic to medical staff due to needed rise in their staffing level in cross-national level using IHME, COVID-19 Projections data
- Analyzing the optimum number of coronavirus tests from the economic and clinical perspectives in cross-national level using IHME, COVID-19 Projections data
- Analyzing the role of social distancing in reducing the burden of patient hospitalizations and mortality in the peak of pandemic

The course is prepared in two languages including English and Finnish. Finnish students can complete the course in Finnish. Only the discussion and group assignments should be submitted in English i.e. students can write their comments in Finnish and add their translations by Google translate in English.

You master the basic concepts and methods of prevention and management of corona pandemic in both national and global levels, planning, guidance and follow-up and apply them in practical way based on your area of expertise. You are in charge of assessing the severity of pandemic and investigating the needed healthcare professions to provide proper care management in the health crisis situation. You apply scientifically COVID-19 data to find the proper policies of pandemic preparedness in different health care systems based on your field of expertise.
