The student knows the emphasis and significance of nature-based tourism from the national and international perspectives. He/she knows the national theme-promoting strategies and development policies. He/she understands the concepts, phenomena and special characteristics related to nature-based tourism and is able to utilize them in analyzing operations. He/she is able to perceive different actors and operations in nature-based tourism. The student understands motives of a traveler and the theme’s significance to the competitiveness of the company.

Nature-based tourism nationally and internationally.
Special characteristics and strategic emphasis.
Nature-based tourism actors and customers.
Nature-based services.

The student has studied tourism and understands how the tourism industry has developed and what it comprises in Finland or/and abroad. The student understands also general concepts of tourism business and principles of sustainable tourism.

Assessment is based on learning objectives and is both qualitative and quantitative, based on criteria. Assessment is implemented by students (self-assessment), peers and the teacher.

Unless otherwise is defined in the curriculum, a course accepted as completed in on the following five-step scale:

0 (Fail)
The student does not meet the minimum criteria set for the course.

1 (Sufficient)
The student knows the concepts related to nature-based tourism. The student’s diverse specification and application of the concepts remain insufficient. The student recognizes key actors and existing services.

2 (Satisfactory)
The student demonstrates that he/she understands the concepts and special characteristics related to nature-based tourism both in theory and in practice. The student is able to point out key actors and services.

3 (Good) The student illustrates and is able to specify the concepts and special characteristics related to Nature-based tourism by utilizing theoretic source material and practical examples. The student knows Nature-based tourism actors and key services.

4 (Very Good) The student is able to analyze the concepts, special characteristics and global perspective related to Nature-based tourism. The student is able to assess key trends, services and networks as part of the operating field.

5 (Excellent) The student masters, in addition to the core competence required for grades 3 (Good) and 4 (Very good), a critical examination. The student is able to display the creativeness.
