Objective

The aim of the course is building up your professional guidance competence in client work in the field of social services and education.

Intended learning outcomes:

You understand the significance of your personal conception of human beings and your values when working with clients. You promote equality, non-discrimination and diversity as well as act ethically and in a socially sustainable manner in situations involving conflicts of values. You work to improve the status of vulnerable individuals and communities.

You work professionally and dialogically in interactive situations and are able to reflect critically on your actions. You plan, deliver and evaluate a service process that is safe for the client, supporting the client's participation and resources.

You support the growth, development, learning and everyday life of individuals, groups and communities in a goal-oriented manner in different life situations. You carry out and document work with clients in a client-centric manner, taking information security and data protection requirements into account. Your work approach promotes well-being, early support and rehabilitation.

You know and comply with the legal basis of the field and the documents that guide the work. You understand the principles of social security. You provide comprehensive service counselling and understand its significance. You work as an active social services specialist in multi-actor network cooperation.

When completing your practical training in early childhood education and care, you carry out and evaluate systematic and high-quality early childhood education and care activities, taking into account and supporting the child's participation, strengths and interests. You participate in educational cooperation with guardians.

You know and comply with the legislation that guides early childhood education and care and the documents that inform the work. You recognise services aimed at children and families with children and understand the importance of service counselling as part of the job description of a Bachelor of Social Services in Early Childhood Education. You are able to work as an active education sector specialist in multi-actor network cooperation.

Content

Practical training in client work in a social services/early childhood education operating environment. If you are studying for a Bachelor of Social Services in Early Childhood Education degree, you will complete the practical training at a day-care centre.

The key content of the course includes professional interaction and client work, interprofessional cooperation, and the planning, delivery and evaluation of guidance for individuals and groups in compliance with the ethical principles and legislation applicable to the field.

Qualifications

You are familiar with the service system of social services and education as well as the ethical principles of the field, and know how to follow them. You are familiar with the acts guiding the field and the work and know how to describe clients’ service processes.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You are able to describe your professional interaction and work with clients as well as interprofessional cooperation and their significance. You are able to follow the principles of professional interaction in both client work and interprofessional cooperation. You are able to plan, deliver, evaluate and document goal-oriented guidance of individuals and groups, taking into account the ethical principles, legislation and services of the field. You know how to use the work approach of service counselling. You are able to describe and evaluate your actions.

If you are studying for a Bachelor of Social Services in Early Childhood Education degree, you are aware of and take into consideration the contents of the mandatory National core curriculum for early childhood education and care when planning, carrying out and evaluating the activities. You know how to guide children of different ages as required by their ages and levels of development. You participate in and carry out educational cooperation with children's guardians/families and familiarise yourself with multidisciplinary cooperation.
