Objective

Purpose of the course
In this course you will learn to enable occupation and participation of working age and elderly clients. Compensation can be used in occupational therapy in order to enable clients occupation and participation. Teaching and guiding can be used in order to strengthen skills and body functions needed in occupations. Meaningful and purposeful activities are used in occupational therapy. These activities are analyzed and adapted to be used goal directed. Chosen methods are used based on good practices and research evidence. You will learn aspects of neuropsychology from the point of view of the occupational therapy client.

You are able to recognize the key problems of occupation especially among those of working age and the elderly (e.g. mental health, stroke, progressive illnesses). You can choose, combine and adapt different intervention procedures in order to enable and enhance client´s occupation. In this course you study the typical occupational challenges related to working age and senior clients as well as the aspects affecting client factors, environments and occupation. You will get to know occupational therapy theories and evidence based models and approaches. This course focuses on occupation based skills training and client factors restoration. You will learn how to adapt occupations according to the goals of the client. You will learn basics of neuropsychology.

Teaching methods

The course is based on flipped learning, i.e. you come prepared for all learning situations. The learning situations are interactive learning situations on campus with compulsory attendance. In addition, students will work individually and/or in small groups on learning tasks. A larger group learning assignment, progressing throughout the course, will be assessed as a Case Study style assignment.

The course consists of 6 credits of occupational therapy for adult somatic rehabilitation (e.g. neurological clients), 3 credits of occupational therapy for mental health clients and 1 credit of neuropsychology as a separate module.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

Completion dates Revision of learning tasks according to the dates defined in the module. Several of the learning tasks to be assessed must be done with the group in the course timetable.

Neuropsychology module exam open during the time specified in the module mode of the course.

Further information for students
