Objective

Familiarize yourself with industrial electrical drives. The emphasis is on basic structures and dimensions. Studying in this course requires basic knowledge of electrical engineering (calculation skills of DC and AC circuits and knowledge of components). You can apply what you have learned here, for example, in other courses in this module.

EUR-ACE ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You can the basic calculation of connected three-phase circuits and its concepts. You know the basic structures, components and protection principles of power supplies. You understand the basic structures and operating principles of electrical machines and are aware of their most common uses. You will have a basic knowledge of the design, operation and control of AC machines.

Content

connected 3-phase systems
power quantities of alternating current circuits (3-phase)
power supply infrastructures and components
operating principles and structures of basic electrical machines

Teaching methods

Problem-based learning is used as a learning method. Learning takes place through independently fulfilled and returned learning tasks and lectures.

Exam schedules

Exam in October 2024.
Re-sits will be announced later.

Student workload

Lessons 16 h
Exam 2 h
Independent tasks 32 h
Workload approximately 50 h

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate (1): You recognize the basics and terminology of electrical machines, but you will have shortcomings in interpreting the key points.

Satisfactory (2): You know and understand the basics and structures of electric drives and their controls, but it's challenging to select components for electric drives.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You know the basics of electric drives and understand what things to consider when choosing components for electric drives.

Very good (4): You master the basics of electric drives and know how to apply knowledge in the selection of components for electric drives.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You master the basics of electric drives and know how to apply knowledge by outlining various alternative functional total solutions.

Qualifications

Computational skills in electrical engineering (DC and AC) and knowledge of basic components.

Further information

The course has an 80% attendance rate. Attendance is monitored. Absences are agreed with the teacher for justified reasons. For example, cases of illness or otherwise demonstrated competence. The assessment criteria will take into account the student's active participation in the course. For example, demonstration of competence by completing a proportion of the tasks specified by the teacher.
The student must sign off the course feedback as having been given (assignment in Moodle).

The exam and the exercises to be returned determine the grade. Self-assessments are mainly done by means of learning tasks. The assessment decision is based on the competence demonstrated in the exercises.
