Objective
Aim of the course
The aim of the course is learning to plan safe and goal-oriented physical activity for older people and guide them in it.

Intended learning outcome of the course:
You know how to work in a person centred way with older people and promote the health and well-being of individuals and groups, stressing the importance of physical activity and exercise. You are able to establish a reciprocal and participatory interactive relationship, taking the client's needs into account. You know how to communicate clearly, precisely and comprehensibly. You can choose appropriate exercises.
Content
The key content of the course comprises understanding the principles of guiding older persons in safe and goal-oriented physical activity. The content includes different adapted forms of exercise, such as chair workouts, chair dance, balance training and ball games as well as guidance sessions for older people.
Location and time
The classroom lessons are held in the Rajakatu campus gym.
Instruction sessions for the Elderly are held in non-school settings. The student chooses the groups to be supervised and the places of activity.

Teaching methods
In this course we learn together through physical exercises. You study how to adapt physical activity to elderly persons. Study method is learning by doing, selflearning and dialogues. You instruct sessions for diverse client groups. You write a review and session plan for the instructions of client groups. In final seminar you present your learning experiences to other students.

You can describe the factors that make up a safe and goal-oriented physical activity session for older people. You draw on the principles of guiding adapted physical activity when planning and implementing physical activity sessions for older people. You communicate naturally with your clients.
