Objective

Upon completion of this course the student should
- have a basic understanding of the Sports Law as it applies to amateur and professional sports in global contexts;
- develop a familiarization with sport laws and recognize different ways legal issues in sports are dealt in the global arena;
-recognize the legal positions of different sport bodies;
-understand and articulate principles of ethical behavior in international sports;
-be able to identify and analyze legal issues affecting sport business, athletes, managers and sports clubs;
-read and understand legal documents and contracts relevant to international sports; and
- apply general Sports Law principles for sport business operations.

Content

• Governing bodies of international sports, Court of Arbitration for Sport and dispute resolution;
• Individual athlete contracts, player transfers and agent/manager- player contracts;
• Doping / drug use and testing;
• Intellectual property, including copyright and trademark protection;
• Gambling and bribery;
• Contractual issues related to media rights, events and sponsorships.

BBA in business or economics or sport or equal.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate 1
You are able to demonstrate the basic theoretical and conceptual knowledge and define central concepts fairly clearly. You are able to describe the problem and somehow interpret and analyse complex business issues in question. You are able to support your argumentation with some basic academic literature and other relevant information. You take responsibility of your own work. You are able to communicate your findings in oral and written form responsibly. There are some issues in complying with JAMK reporting instructions.

Satisfactory 2
You are able to give some evidence on theoretical and conceptual knowledge and define central concepts.
Ypu are able to define the problem but have difficulties in interpretation and analysing of the complex business issues and legal problems arising and is not able to evaluate them from multiple perspectives. You are able to review academic literature and other relevant information from legal and academic sources in a satisfactory way. You are able to work independently and take responsibility of your team’s work. You are able to communicate your findings in oral and written form responsibly. There are minor issues in complying with JAMK reporting instructions.
