Osaamistavoitteet
Student has an overall picture of the epistemological and ontological considerations of qualitative research and its methodology. The student can identify the applicability of various types of qualitative data and methods for solving different types of research questions. He/she understands the strengths and the weaknesses of qualitative research and has an ability to conduct a qualitative research and assess it as well as its applicability to her/his own field of research and development work.

The student is able to determine the reasons for the theoretical foundations and methods for qualitative research. He/she is able to expertly examine the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research. He/she can evaluate a variety of qualitative research and data gathering methods for the purpose of different types of research. The student has excellent capabilities to do qualitative research. He/she is able to critically evaluate qualitative research and its applicability in her/his own field of research and development.
4 (very good):
The student is able to determine the reasons for the theoretical foundations and methods of qualitative research. He/she understands the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research. He/she knows how to evaluate qualitative data and methods for the purpose of different types of research. He/she is able to evaluate qualitative research and its applicability in her/his own field of research and development.
3 (good):
The student demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of qualitative research as well as of its strengths and weaknesses. The student selects and justifies the qualitative data and the methods of choice, which are applicable to her/his final thesis/dissertation research tasks. He/she is well prepared to do qualitative research. Students can evaluate qualitative research and apply this knowledge in their field of research and development.
2 (satisfactory):
The student demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of qualitative research as well as of its strengths and weaknesses. He/she identifies different types of qualitative data and methods that are applicable to different types of research tasks. Students are able to do qualitative research. They understand how to evaluate qualitative research, and to apply the knowledge in their field of research and development.

The student demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of qualitative research as well as of its strengths and weaknesses. He/she identifies different types of qualitative data and methods that are applicable to different types of research tasks. He/she has the basic skills needed to do qualitative research and he/she understands how to evaluate qualitative research.

The student is not aware of the theoretical basis of qualitative research. The student does not have the skills to evaluate and carry out qualitative research.
