Objective
The students are aware of the principles of safety thinking based on risk assessment, and know how to collect design information from directives regarding safety requirements, as well as from respective standards. The students are able to act as members of work groups designing safety automation.
Content
The prevention of mechanical risks in machine systems and machines utilizing protection techniques. The safety design of machine control systems: the safety requirements of control systems, their choice regarding safety technique, safety relays, programmable safety logics, hydraulics and pneumatics, stopping of machines, prevention of unexpected start-up. Design of safety automation for process control systems: functional safety, safety requirements according to IEC 61508, the recognition of risks and assessment of risk gravity, the principles of implementing commercial safety logics, safety buses.
