Objective

The students can form expressions, equations or functions. The students can handle expressions and solve equations by hand, and with a calculator, and by using mathematical computer programs. The students master the use of information technology devices needed in the writing of mathematical expressions. The students understand the concept of a function, can draw and analyze graphs of functions and can form the equation of a function from a graph. The objectives may vary a little depending on the degree programme.

Content

Handling powers and roots, reducing expressions, trigonometric application of right and oblique angles, calculating with vectors, solving first and second degree polynomial equations, root-, exponent- and logarithm equations and pairs and sets of equations. Forming equations from a verbal task, percentage and interest calculation and proportionality. The areas and volumes of the most common bodies, similarity. The concept of a function and polynomial-, rational-, root-, exponent- and logarithm functions and trigonometric functions. Using mathematical computer programs in applications. The objectives may vary a little depending on the degree programme.
