Osaamistavoitteet
The students have skills in taking responsibility for preventing the most usual public health problems, care counseling, referrals to examinations, implementation, monitoring and coordination of treatment in cooperation with the patients and following a plan drawn up with a multiprofessional team. The students ensure the continuity of treatment and communication related to the treatment and service package and coping at home. The students are familiar with palliative and terminal care.

- Support for decision-making (incl. national and regional treatment programmes and recommendations, care maps)
- Evidence-based decision-making in nursing related to the treatment of public health problems
- Service selection (treatment, service and rehabilitation chains, patients’ organisations)
- Support forms for self-care, IT solutions, guidance and counselling in reinforcing self-care skills and lifestyles
- Health benefit model in the prevention and treatment of long-term illnesses
- Coordination of services, return to home (incl. the PALKO model)

The students have extensive knowledge of decision-making relevant to nursing in key public health problems and in the evidence-based planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s comprehensive treatment. The students are able to explain and justify in a versatile manner the aetiology and risk factors of the most common public health problems as well as the changes brought about by the illness. They are able to describe the phases of drugs and their mechanisms in the body, and they have versatile knowledge of the most common drug groups. The students are able to analyse and justify the significance of treatment, service and rehabilitation chains and treatment models as part of comprehensive treatment that rehabilitates the patient and promotes his or her good health. In learning assignments, the students demonstrate in-depth reflection on and comparison and evaluation of information from different perspectives, drawing from the source material in a versatile manner. They suggest their own development ideas in the reflection. In written assignments, the students comply with the JAMK reporting instructions.
