Osaamistavoitteet

The students:
• get practice in the main nursing interventions and monitoring and maintenance of vital functions
• can apply basic aseptics to nursing practice
• operate according to the values and principles of patient/client-oriented nursing
• can encounter different patients/clients professionally
• are able to assess the health and functional ability of a patient/client under supervision
• can recognise needs for nursing care and respond to them with the means of nursing, promoting health and functional ability
• get practice in empowerment-based counselling related to patients’/clients’ daily activities
• implement safe medication practices under supervision

Pass (S):KNOWLEDGE: The student has the basic knowledge of the special characteristics, health and ability to function and promoting the health and ability to function of the customer/patient of gerontological nursing practice. He/she is familiar with the basic needs and essential assistance methods of nursing a customer/patient. The student is acquainted with essential nursing procedures, vital functions and monitoring these functions. The student is familiar with the basics of aseptic techniques, ergonomics and medical treatment. The student has understood the values and principles of nursing. The student is familiar with the central principles of professional interaction. The student knows the basic principles of resource-oriented guidance of the customer's/patient's daily routines.SKILLS: The student is able to recognise and respond to the customer's/patient's basic daily needs through the means of nursing practice. He/she is competent in essential nursing procedures and monitoring and maintaining vital functions. The student is able to apply the basics of aseptic techniques and ergonomics in practical nursing. He/she is able to encounter different customers/patients professionally and is competent in resource-oriented guidance of the customers'/patients' daily routines. The student is able to implement medical treatment safely under guidance. The student is aware of the competence that is the objective of the course and is able to analyse the challenges to his/her development. He/she is also conscious of the standard of his/her competence and acts responsibility on this basis.GENERAL COMPETENCE: The student is motivated to improve his/her vocational competence. The student assumes responsibility for vocational assignments assigned to him/her and acts in the agreed manner, taking other actors into consideration. The student is competent in the most common communication situations of nursing practice, and he/she understands the principles of team work and entrepreneurial spirit. The student is able to plan, implement and assess his/her own actions.
Fail (0): KNOWLEDGE: The student had inadequate knowledge of the basic needs of the patient/customer and the relevant methods of assistance. SKILLS: The student is unable to apply his/her knowledge of nursing practice to various nursing situations and different patients/customers. He/she risks or neglects the safety of the customer/patient (e.g. aseptic techniques, confidentiality). GENERAL COMPETENCE: The student avoids and/or is indifferent to the patient/customer. His/her behaviour is unprofessional (language, clothing, intoxicants). The student acts irresponsibly and passively in relation to the operating principles of the training unit (e.g. observance of working times). He/she does not perceive the standard of his/her skills and learning needs, nor is he/she able to make use of feedback received. The student exceeds his/her authority. He/she has a negative attitude to his/her learning.
