The students demonstrate mastery of their field and good proficiency in Finnish or Swedish. Students who have completed their education in a language other than Finnish can take the maturity test in Finnish or in the language of instruction.

The maturity test is assessed by the supervising teacher and the teacher of the language in which the essay is written. The assessment targets are content and language.
