Osaamistavoitteet

The students:
- Develop your capacity to think strategically about a company, its present business position, its long-term direction, its resources and competitive capabilities, the calibre of its strategy, and its opportunities for gaining sustainable competitive advantage.
- Build your skills in conducting strategic analysis in a variety of industries and competitive situations and, especially, to provide you with a stronger understanding of the competitive challenges of a global market environment.
- Provide you with hands-on experience in crafting business strategy, reasoning carefully about strategic options and making sound strategic decisions.
- Acquaint you with the managerial tasks associated with implementing and executing company strategies, familiarize you with the range of actions managers can take to promote competent strategy execution, and give you some confidence in being able to function effectively as part of a company’s strategy-implementing team.
- Integrate the knowledge gained from previously completed core-business courses, show you how the various pieces of the business puzzle fit together, and demonstrate why the different parts of a business need to be managed in strategic harmony for the organization to operate in competitive fashion.
- Develop your competencies of managerial judgment, help you learn how to assess business risk, and improve your ability to make sound decisions and achieve effective outcomes.
- Make you more conscious about the importance of exemplary ethical principles, sound personal and company values, and socially responsible management practices.

• Overview of strategic management: enterprise resources and stakeholders, mission statements and organizational vision, philosophical issues, culture and values, management.
• Tools and theories for strategic analysis.
• Competitive advantage and strategic marketing.
• Customer relationship management.
• Strategy formulation and industry analysis.
• Human resource management (HRM) strategies.

Esitietovaatimukset

The students:

- Understand the fundamentals of entrepreneurship marketing and human resource management (HRM).
- Competent in formulating feasible business plans.
- Privy with creating customer loyalty and managing long-term customer relationships.
- Proficient in analyzing and implementing competitive business strategies.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1)

For the general assessment criteria of the competence generated by the Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree, please see the website of JAMK University of Applied Sciences (www.jamk.fi/english/forstudents/studyguide). The learning outcomes of a course will be assessed in accordance with its learning objectives on the basis of the skills and knowledge and general competences specified in The National and European Quality Management Systems (NQF/EQF, level 6).
Assignments returned late will be degraded.
Grades 1(Sufficient) - 2(Satisfactory):
*The student understands the concepts and basic principles of strategic management
3 (Good) – 4 (Very Good):
In addition to the core competence required for grades 1 and 2, the student has a command of the skills listed below, and is also capable of making use of the skills learnt.
*The student understands the link between theory and practice of the strategic management. The student utilizes the analysed knowledge and argues for development ideas in terms of strategic management
5 (Excellent):
In addition to the core competence required for grades 3 and 4, the student has a command of the skills listed below, and is also capable of making use of the skills learnt in a critical and innovative way.
*The student can apply theory into practice. The student is capable of critical and analytical arguments in terms of strategic management.
All the areas of strategic management must be completed satisfactorily. Late return of the assignments will lead to a grade decrease.
Unless otherwise specified in the curriculum, successfully completed courses will be assessed using a five-point scale: 5 (Excellent), 4 (Very Good), 3 (Good), 2 (Satisfactory), and 1 (Sufficient). A course will be graded as a 0 (Fail) if the student is unable to achieve the minimum objectives of the course.
In special cases, a course may be graded as an S (Pass) or a 0 (Fail).
