Objective
The students can independently design the application functions and the user interface of a process control station; know the modules of an automation system, I/O units and HW structure. They can design fieldbus controls and master the basics of sequential design, and can use test and diagnostic tools in troubleshooting. After the course they can introduce and design controls for automation laboratory process hardware.
Content
The central contents cover the application and user interface design of process and control stations, sequential design, fieldbuses, the features and configuration of field equipment, and the use of test and diagnostic tools. The course includes laboratory work with automation lab equipment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Very good (4-5): The student masters the basic automation system design related to the equipment, user interface and sequential controls and also masters the safety procedures and fault diagnostics of the system.
Good (3): The student has achieved the learning objectives of the automation system design related to the equipment, user interface and sequential controls and also the learning objectives of the safety procedures and fault diagnostics of the system.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student can design the basic functions of the automation systems related to the equipment, user interface and sequential controls and also the safety procedures and fault diagnostics of the system but the skills are not sufficient to work independently.
