Objective

The students can design, implement and manage improvement projects on the quality performance in a production process. They can choose and use the necessary development tools and techniques.

EA-EN EUR-ACE Engineering analysis: The student can select and use development and problem-solving methods/tehniques to solve problems.

EA-IV EUR-ACE Investigations: The student has the ability to conduct literature searches and use databases and other sources of information in her/his development work.

YHTTH Data management skills: The student is capable of creative problem-solving and production processes development.

Content

Total quality management (TQM) and the related quality thinking, quality improvement tools, Lean-thinking and basic technics, development of the inspection and condition monitoring methods of production machines, statistic process analysis (e.g. SPC) and risk analyses.

Qualifications

The students have the technical basic abilities with which they can e.g. understand technical documentation and technical publications and they can apply them in their own work. In addition, the students have basic abilities of production technology and economy.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to problem solving situations. The student can make simple synthesis and conclusions.

Very good (4): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to problem solving situations.

Good (3): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills also in more complicated situations:
- is able to design, implement and manage improvement projects related to the quality performance in production processes
- can choose and use the most important development tools and techniques (TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new, SPC and FMEA)
- is familiar with the basic inspection and condition monitoring methods of the production machinery.

Satisfactory (2): The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology but there are some gaps in the knowledge how to implement the most important problem solving techniques and ideas. The student is able to solve unusual problems in a satisfactory manner applying different quality techniques.

Adequate (1): The student identifies the basic knowledge and terminology but there are significant gaps in the knowledge how to understand the most important problem solving techniques and ideas. The student is able to solve simple problems in a satisfactory manner applying different quality techniques.

Assessment criteria, good (3)
