Objective

The students know the most common forms of electricity production and the future prospects of the field. They understand the basic structure of an electricity transmission and distribution network and know its components. They know the basic components used in high-voltage engineering and their applications. They know the basic protection methods used in an electricity transmission and distribution network, e.g. short-circuit and earth-leakage relay protection. They recognise the demands that distributed electricity production sets on the control and structure of an electrical power system.

Content

• electricity transmission and distribution networks and high-voltage engineering
• electricity transmission systems, overvoltages and overvoltage protection
• quality of supply
• electricity distribution components and equipment
• technical sizing of cables
• short-circuit and earth-leakage relay protection
• electricity distribution automation and remote control
• distributed electricity production
• new techniques and future prospects
• electricity production plants (power plant engineering)
• new electricity production methods
• intelligent electrical power systems

Qualifications

Basics of electrical power engineering and CAD

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student has acquired the knowledge and skills covered by the course and can independently apply them in practice.
Good (3): The student masters some of the learning objectives of the course and can apply them in practice.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student has the basic knowledge of the electricity production, transmission and distribution.
Assessment is based on the exam, seminar work, laboratory work and calculation exercises.
