Objective

The students master the external processes and their operating principles of paper making, and they can also size roughly the main devices of the processes. The students understand on what theoretical knowledge the sizing of different part processes is based. The students master the central know-how produced and needed in process design and they can also utilize it as the basis of design. The students have the readiness to work in cooperation with the process designers of a paper mill.

Content

The processes and sizing of the water and air systems, steam and condensate system, and pulp systems of a paper mill.

Qualifications

The students know the structures of the machines in paper- and board production lines and also their significance in paper making.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student masters very well the sub-processes of the paper manufacture environment and has theoretical grounds to find out both gaseous and liquid flow phenomena taking into account the dimensioning.
Good (3): The student masters well different sub-processes of the paper making line and can apply basic calculations to dimensioning tasks and also understands the problems of more complicated flow environments.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student has good knowledge of the sub-processes of the paper making line and can in a satisfactory manner apply calculation methods to dimensioning tasks.
