Objective
Based on evidence, the students are able to plan, implement and evaluate the care of a pregnant woman, a child, a young person, a school-aged child and a family in public health nursing. The students have good capabilities for supporting and counselling individuals, families and groups in health promotion (breastfeeding and dietary counselling, early interaction, sexual and reproductive health) with a resource-based and family-oriented work approach. The students are able to examine and develop their decision-making skills and their personal ways of acting with individuals and groups and in multidisciplinary cooperation networks.
Content
Family-oriented and resource-based methods of public health nursing and health promotion of children and families. Supporting and counselling families in parenting and growth as parents. Family counselling.
Qualifications
The students master basic knowledge of social and health care sector customer relationships and settings, key concepts and methods as well as goals and methods of counselling, health promotion and preventive nursing, and they are familiar with the basic premises of evidence-based decision-making. The students master Advanced Public health nursing and basics of Public health nursing in various stages of the life cycle I.

The student:
Demonstrates their competence by planning, implementing and evaluating the counselling and treatment of a pregnant woman, a child, a school-aged child, a young person and a family in public health nursing
They apply a family-oriented and resource-based work approach (in breastfeeding and nutritional advice, promotion of early interaction, supporting parenting, and promoting reproductive and sexual health) in promoting the health of the individual, the family and the group
They are able to justify the monitoring and treatment techniques of a pregnant woman and a foetus, and learn to recognize problems in pregnancies and develop capabilities for treating such problems together with a multiprofessional expert group
They justify their knowledge and skills in health-related factors, health risks and health problems of children and young people of various ages and their families
They interpret the results of screenings and health checks, learn to draw conclusions on the need for counselling and advice and to work together with a multiprofessional expert group
They examine their personal way of acting in individual, group or cooperation situations
Are capable of oral communication and documentation for the patient record system as required by legislation.
Follow the work community rules, act with initiative and demonstrate an ability for cooperation
Assess their own actions critically and suggest targets for development.
