Objective

The student:
- understands and implements the values and different perceptions of people of the social services and healthcare.
- understands and uses ethical principles of a focus on the client and family.
- creates and develops goal-oriented interaction and cooperation that supports participation and resources.
- recognises and utilises the social services and healthcare multiprofessional knowledge base in client work.
- recognises an individual’s areas of functioning and understands the basic principles of assessing functioning.

Content

The biopsychosocial mental view of a person.
Client terminology and concepts: individual, family, community, population, multicultural clients.
Client-centeredness, meeting with client, examples of the client process.
The ethical viewpoints and principles of client work in the social services and healthcare.
An individual's stages of growth and development. Taking differences and disabilities into account.
Functional ability, viewpoints on assessment of functional ability.

The structure and functions of the human body, basics of anatomy and physiology as areas of an individual’s functional ability. These themes will be studied in English language.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Project assignments, self-assessment and peer reviews are utilised in evaluation. Online studies in anatomy and physiology, as well as studies in medical subjects include exams and learning assignments.

Pass:
The student:
- can apply the values and professional ethical principles of social services and healthcare in team work and projects and/or client situations.
- uses a holistic understanding of human beings, as well as client and family focused principles in planning and implementation of projects and client work.
- creates and develops goal-oriented interaction and cooperation that supports participation and resources.
- utilises the multidisciplinary client work knowledge base for social services and healthcare in his or her project assignments, i.e. has a command of the knowledge base related to an individual’s physical, psychological, social and cognitive capacity, as well as medical subjects.
- has a sufficient command of the basics of anatomy, physiology and medical subjects.
