Objective

The students become aware of the social context of guiding and counselling work for young people including the risks inherent in the transition from education to the working life. They know about the theoretical approaches of guidance, and the supply of guidance services for young people including the types of guidance used. The students understand the professional and ethical starting points for guiding and counselling work for young people, and are able to make use of multi-professional networks in their own guidance work. The students also know the guidance process and planning to be implemented in a client-oriented way. They have command of the interaction essential to the guidance, and are able to recognise young people’s needs for guidance, and to support them to manage everyday life.

2. Young people as clients of guidance services.
3. Theories of guidance.
4. Professional and ethical elements of guidance for young people.
5. Guidance methods and interactive skills.
6. Guidance process and plan.

Qualifications

The students know factors which are related to the growth and development of the adolescent.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good - Excellent (4-5):
The student demonstrates the objective of the course with the excellent performance of course competencies. The student participate in contact lessons and the conversations in virtual environment and he/she completed the agreed assignments. He/she shows in written assignments excellent capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and he/she is able to consider them critically. He/she knows how to utilize both Finnish and English sources. The students follow the instructions for written work of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.

Good (3): The student demonstrates the objective of the course with the good performance of course competencies. The student participate in contact lessons and the conversations in virtual environment and he/she completed the agreed assignments. He/she shows in written assignments capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and he/she utilizes sources. The students follow the instructions for written work of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
Sufficient - Satisfactory (1-2):
The student demonstrates the objective of the course with the satisfactory performance of the course competencies. The student participate partly in contact lessons and only a little or not at all in conversation in virtual environment. He/she completed the agreed assignments satisfactorily. He/she shows in written assignments modest capabilities to describe the subjects of the course and he/she utilizes sources very little. The students follow only partly the instructions for written work of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.

Fall (0): The student does not achieve the objectives and the competences of the course. Written tasks are not
done.
