    Learning outcomes of the course
    The objective of the course
    Management and development of supply chains and logistics processes demands the utilization of data collection and processing of data. As a logistics professional you need to understand how data can be gathered automatically and analyzed with information systems. In this course you’ll also learn how these technologies create competitive advantage.

    This course develops and assesses the following competences: Technology, Knowledge and understanding, Investigation and information retrieval and Communication and team work.

    The learning objectives of the course
    Student knows the most common automatic data gathering methods in logistics, understands how they work and how companies benefit from them. Student knows what kind of information systems companies utilize and understands how they can bring competitive advantage. Student can also conduct a research and present the findings in a compact manner.

    Technology and Knowledge and understanding: Student can describe the working methods of automatic data gathering technologies utilized especially in logistics and can compare RFID and bar code systems through their strengths and weaknesses. Student knows how positioning systems work and are utilized for logistics processes. Student understands what Intelligent transport systems is and how it affects road transport. Student can describe how the most common information systems are utilized and what kind of benefits and competitive advantage they can bring.

    Investigation and information retrieval: Student can form a research question related to the scope of the course, conduct a comprehensive research within given timeframe and present the findings in a compact manner.

    Communication and team work: Student can give constructive feedback to others and can take part in a conversation.
