Objective

You are familiar with the key teaching methods and instructional materials related to the instruction of the ensemble, and you are able to develop and apply them. You have the basic skills for teaching and working as an instructor. You can act as an instructor for various small groups, such as band groups or chamber music ensembles, and you can produce and select teaching materials suitable for these groups. You understand fundamental phenomena related to group dynamics, interaction, and team building, and you can leverage your own personal and musical strengths as a small group instructor. You have expertise in the guidance of learning and assessment in practical teaching, and you can function within a professional community. You can assess your own and others' skills constructively, inspiringly, and realistically. You can create suitable learning materials for online learning environments and act responsibly in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

Content

In the course, you will become acquainted with material arranged or composed for various ensembles and styles, and you will practice developing and applying them in practical teaching situations. You will explore the basics of group dynamics, interaction, and ensemble playing, and you will learn to plan, implement, and manage typical ensemble teaching situations. You will produce learning materials for online learning environments and familiarize yourself with relevant digital teaching applications. Additionally, you will observe and provide feedback on the teaching practices of your fellow students.

Qualifications

You are familiar with the fundamentals of pop/jazz ensemble playing or classical chamber music, and you understand various learning theories in the context of music education. You underestand the significance of curricula as the foundation of instruction. You know how to effectively use online environments in your studies.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Accepted:
You are able to independently plan and conduct teaching sessions. In your learning tasks, you demonstrate that you have familiarized yourself with the key teaching methods and instructional materials related to ensemble playing/chamber music, and you can apply them. You have the basic skills for teaching and the role of an instructor. You can assess your own teaching as well as your students in practical teaching situations. You can also assess the teaching of others in a constructive and realistic manner.
