Objective

You will get to know the electricity transmission and distribution networks as well as the different forms of electricity production. Studying in this course requires planning skills in electrical engineering.

EUR-ACE ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You outline the basic structure of the electricity transmission and distribution network and know their basic components. You know the basic components used in high voltage technology and their applications. You know the basic protection methods used in the electricity transmission and distribution network, such as short-circuit and earth-fault relay protection. You identify the requirements set by decentralized electricity generation for the control and structure of the electricity network. You know how to dimension and select equipment and components using techno-economic principles. You have knowledge of the protections and control of electricity distribution devices and switchgear as well as electrical systems.

Teaching methods

Problem-based learning is used as a learning method. Learning takes place through lectures and independently performed and returned learning tasks and exercise works. The completion of learning tasks is guided by video instructions and during the contact lessons. This study unit includes also laboratory works.

Exam schedules

Tentti (autumn 2022)
Resit 1 (autumn 2022)
Resit 2 (autumn 2022)

Vaihtoehtoiset suoritustavat

The admission procedures are described in the degree rule and the study guide. The teacher of the course will give you more information on possible specific course practices.

Student workload

One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the course implementation.

Further information

Self-assessments are mainly done through learning tasks. The assessment decision is based on the skills demonstrated in the exercises and midterm exams.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

Adequate (1): You recognize the basics and terminology, but you have shortcomings in interpreting the key issues.

Satisfactory (2): You know the basics and terminology, but applying things is challenging.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

Good (3): You are familiar with the most commonly used forms of electricity generation. You outline the basic structure of the electricity transmission and distribution network and know their basic components. You know the basic protection methods used in the electricity transmission and distribution network, such as short-circuit and earth-fault relay protection. You know how to dimension and select components on a techno-economic basis.

Very good (4): You master the key things and know how to apply them in a variety of ways.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
