Objective

The aim of the course is for you to become aware of the factors affecting your well-being, develop your self-esteem and find ways to cope with and prevent challenges.

You will reflect on your own actions, thoughts and feelings, taking into account your values and the principles of your profession.

Content

The main focus of the course is on the factors affecting student's well-being and life skills, the challenges related to them, and the ways to alleviate and prevent them. In terms of challenges, particular attention will be paid to stress and anxiety and mood disorders. In terms of means, the focus will be on approaches such as compassion-centred or recovery-oriented approaches. Attention will be paid to the awareness of one's values, to enabling actions in line with values and to being consciously present.

Student will describe his/her values and the principles of his/her profession by naming their actions, thoughts and feelings.

Time and location

The groups will meet on Tuesdays 29.10. - 3.12.2024 from 16-18 pm remotely or possibly in contact meetings at the Dynamo campus, if there are enough people willing. Each group will have a maximum of 10 people.

Teaching methods

The course is based on students compassion mentoring program. Student attends group meetings weekly and makes practices on his/her own and reflects themes independently.

Student workload

Familiarisation with the course as a whole and definition of personal objectives 5 h
Active participation in a compassion mentoring group 6 times and independent tasks related to the theme of the session 22 h
Keeping a learning diary, reading the literature and reflecting on your own experience 27

The course will take place at the end of autumn 2024 in October-December

Further information for students

The assessment of the course is based on the student's self-assessment in relation to the course theme and his/her own experience and learning, as well as the teacher's assessment of the reflection task.

To complete the course, you must attend the compassion group meetings. Compassion groups are facilitated by 2nd - 4th year students of social and health care.
