Key learning outcomes

Graduates of the degree programme are familiar with the latest development trends in robotics and understand the opportunities and limitations provided by robotics. They are familiar with the latest technological solutions of physical robots and are able to develop new products, services and business that utilise robotics. They are capable of working in demanding expert positions in the field of robotics.

Education content and professional growth and know-how

The studies consist of JAMK's shared Master’s degree courses, the specialist studies offered by the degree programme, and complementary studies that support the student’s learning and career objectives. The specialist studies focus on the completion of the Master’s thesis or working life development assignment. The structure of the studies (60 credits) is as follows:

Shared master competence (5 cr):
Research and Development 5 op
- Research-based Development (5op)

Expert core competence (50 cr):
Robotis (20 cr)
- Robotics Applications (5 cr)
- Safety in Automation (5 cr)
- Machine Learning in Robotics (5 cr)
- Automation Networks and Cyber Security (5 cr)
Master's thesis (30 cr)

Complementary competence (5 cr)

Flexible studies

The studies are flexibly implemented in the form of part-time studies that are partly offered online, so studies can be successfully pursued irrespective of where you live or work.

In accordance with the principle of recognition of prior learning and experience, you can identify what you already know, which allows you to apply for accreditation based on such competence (see Degree Regulations, Section 17). You may have acquired prior learning, or you may acquire it during your studies, in many different ways by studying in another institution of higher education, by working or by engaging in project or volunteer work.

Students have a choice of alternative or elective studies offered by partner universities in Finland and abroad, such as other universities of applied sciences (CampusOnline), universities and educational institutions involved in the EduFutura collaboration (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia). Higher level studies completed elsewhere may be accredited as part of your degree. The student must have a certificate or some other document to prove that they have completed the studies. Skills acquired elsewhere can also be described and demonstrated to enable accreditation. Further information is available in the Study Guide.

Working life oriented learning

The learning assignments included in the courses can be completed in the student’s own work community. Many work community development tasks can also be taken up to be planned, refined and resolved as learning assignments and projects.

It is possible to build a personal study path for the studies through studification of work and a wide utilisation of the courses offered by JAMK’s master’s degree programmes.

The thesis is a research-based working life development assignment.

Career opportunities and employment

The Degree Programme in Robotics is specifically targeted at Bachelors of Science in the fields of electricity, automation, electronics and ICT as well as experts who have already completed other suitable education. The degree programme is suitable for those who are in the early stages of their careers as well as for those who already have a wealth of experience and a long career in working life. Graduates from the degree programme may work in industry and businesses or as entrepreneurs in demanding planning tasks or in managerial duties.

Development as an expert in robotics will provide the students with opportunities to apply for new and challenging positions and to advance their career. Having completed a master’s degree at a university of applied sciences, graduates possess the skills required for developing the operations of organisations and actively producing new competences.

Qualifications

There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.

Further studies

The graduate may apply to continue on to postgraduate studies in science or arts at universities (Act 558/2009, Section 37) and in the school of professional teacher education. Studies can be continued by applying for corresponding post-degree education at universities abroad, for example. A university of applied sciences also provides opportunities for continuing education in the form of specialisation studies, open studies, an online study portal (CampusOnline) and working life based continuing education.

Education planning

Working-life representatives and experts and JAMK’s specialists have been involved in the planning of the degree programme. The planning of the objectives and content of the degree programme is based on the information obtained from research and working life representatives on the current and future competence needs. Advisory committees from various fields, consisting of experts and managers of different businesses, also regularly take part in the planning process. The programme is constantly developed based on the continuing feedback from students active in working life.
