Objective
The students are familiar with the service systems of mental health and addiction nursing, as well as the multiprofessional expert networks involved in them. They know the main factors causing mental health problems, addictions and crises, and understand their significance for preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitating mental health and addiction care. They are able to recognize the crises and problems of people with mental disorders and addictions, as well as the changes caused by these problems. The students have a readiness for planning, implementing and evaluating care as members of a team. They can use mental health, addiction and crisis work interventions through the perspective of a cooperative relationship. They can consider the special nature of mental health, addiction and crisis work in encountering clients or patients, and are aware of the significance of client-oriented nursing. They know the basics of on-the-job instruction. They are able to promote tolerance and the understanding of diversity in society.
Content
The concepts of mental health / addiction/ crisis work, the service system, and related cooperative networks.
The recognition of mental health problems / substance abuse / crises, and referral to treatment. Planning, implementing and evaluating the care of depressed, suicidal and psychotic clients and addiction clients. Helping and encountering a crisis client. Working as members of a team. Nurse’s responsibility and duties. Cooperative relationship and related nursing interventions. On-the-job instruction.
