Objective

Purpose of the course

After completing this course, you will know the basics of economic use and natural management of forests and the general characteristics of the forestry environment.

Course objectives

You know the methods of forest management and the effects of forest use on the forest ecosystem. You know the methods of forest nature management and understand the role of forests in mitigating climate change and safeguarding biodiversity. You understand the economic impact of forestry, the importance of forests to society and individuals and the key organisations involved in forestry. You can take into account forestry legislation, certification schemes and forest management guidelines.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient 1:
You can describe general methods of forest and nature management. You understand the economic and environmental impacts of forest use and can apply relevant legislation, forest certification, and management guidelines to simple situations. You are familiar with key forestry organizations. Your assignments have been approved, but contain deficiencies or inaccuracies.

Satisfactory 2:
You can select forest and nature management methods suitable for a given site. You understand the economic and environmental impacts of your choices and can apply relevant legislation, certifications, and guidelines. You are familiar with the roles of forestry organizations. The assignments have been approved and completed in accordance with the instructions, but they contain inaccuracies.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3:
You can justify your choice of forest and nature management methods for the site, as well as recognize alternative courses of action. You can apply legislation, forest certification, and guidelines to practical situations, and you understand the economic and environmental impacts of these measures. You recognize the roles and services of forestry organizations. The assignments were prepared according to the instructions and applied learning materials.

Very good 4:
You can evaluate the effectiveness of various forest and nature management strategies for a specific location by comparing different approaches. You can assess the economic and environmental impacts of the measures, as well as apply relevant legislation, forest certification, and guidelines.
