Objective

Purpose of the course
After the course, you will recognize the patient's and client's care needs and learn how to respond to them with nursing methods.

You benefit from related sciences that support clinical competence when planning, implementing and evaluating nursing work
You identify the client/patient's care needs and resources and are aware of your own responsibility in planning guidance and supporting self-care
You recognize the ethical starting points of the industry
You can apply the principles of evidence-based nursing in simulation situations.
You practice most common terminology and phrases in Finnish language within basic nursing settings.

Content

Aseptic operating principles of nursing (fundamentals of infection control, hand hygiene and aseptic work order)
Helping with hygiene
Monitoring of vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, breathing, temperature, pain and consciousness)
Taking care of excretion needs (one-time and permanent bladder catheterization, bowel function)
Taking care of nutrition and fluid balance
Taking blood samples (hemoglobin, blood sugar, urine sample, pharynx sample)
Venous blood sampling
Injections in medical treatment (sc. and im.)
Monitoring the condition of the skin and preventing pressure sores
Ethical principles of nursing work as part of the professional interactions
Operating principles of emergency first aid
Ergonomic basics of patient transfer
Basics of Finnish clinical terminology in patient interactions

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient 1
You know the patients' basic needs and can respond with relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You know the principles of ergonomics. You know the basic principles of aseptics as part of nursing. You know the basics of a professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid. You recognize basic nursing terminology and phrases in Finnish.

Satisfactory 2
You recognize the patients' basic needs and can respond with relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You know the principles of ergonomics. You understand the basic principles of aseptics as part of nursing. You understand the basics of a professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid. You recognize basic nursing terminology and phrases in Finnish.

Good 3
You understand and respond to patients' basic needs using relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You understand the basic principles of ergonomics and aseptics as part of nursing. You understand the basics of a professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid. You recognize basic nursing terminology and phrases in Finnish.

Very good 4
You have a good understanding of the patients' basic needs and are able to respond to them using relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You are able to reason the interventions with the help of evidence. You understand the principles of ergonomics as part of patient safety and occupational safety. You understand the basic principles of asepsis as part of nursing. You can use the basics of professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid. You recognize basic nursing terminology and phrases in Finnish. You recognize basic nursing terminology and phrases in Finnish. You can use greetings and introductions in Finnish.

Excellent 5
You have a broad understanding of the patient's basic needs and can reasonably respond to them by analysing patient's individual situation. You can offer extensive justifications for the interventions with the help of evidence.. You understand the principles of ergonomics and are able to apply them. You understand the basic principles of asepsis as part of nursing. You are able to apply ethical principles in nursing and understand their importance as part of professional encounters. You know how to deliver basic first aid. You recognize basic nursing terminology and phrases in Finnish. You can use greetings and introductions in Finnish.
