Objective
Purpose of the course
In professional practice you will work in different mental health, addiction and crisis nursing environments. You will evaluate the patient's need for care, and under supervision, plan and implement the nursing care for the patients and their families. You work as a member of a multiprofessional team. Professional practice strengthens your professional ethics and your self-reflection skills. You will also practice the key vocabulary in Finnish.

Values and attitudes in mental health, substance abuse, and crisis care.
Culturally sensitive encountering with people of different ages and cultural backgrounds.
Nursing process of a patient with mental health or addiction disorder or acute crisis.
Deepening knowledge and skills in commonly used nursing interventions in mental health and addiction nursing, such as therapeutic nurse-patient relationship, dialogue, psychoeducation and brief intervention.
Supporting the patient in acute crisis.
Applying mental health and addiction nursing legislation and recommendations in different client situations.
