Objective
The students perceive the university of applied sciences as a learning environment, knowing what is characteristic of study at a higher education institution. They acquire the skills needed to develop their own learning and a professional approach. They understand the significance of information literacy for problem-solving and learning, and form an outlook on the development of their inner entrepreneurial spirit. They are able to create their own career plans based on work opportunities in the field, as well as personal study plans supporting progress in studies.
Content
Part 1:
The university of applied sciences as a learning environment: getting to know the physical learning environment and higher education community.
The student's own values and attitudes – the values, mission and vision of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. Field-specific work-life values and ethics.
The principles of creating a career plan and a personal study plan (HOPS).
Part 2:
Data acquisition skills and information literacy. Basic IT skills: e-mail, the basics of intranet/Internet, the online learning environment. Instructions for written assignments. Curricula, students' rights and duties.
Part 3:
The university of applied sciences as a channel to working life: practical training, project studies, the development of international skills as part of studies, and the opportunities to study entrepreneurship.
General workplace skills (transferable skills) and individual competitive edge in the labour market.
The students create their first career plans and personal study plans.

The students can estimate their present skills and competences and their development needs connected with these. They are able to plan and organise their actions in the learning environment of the university of applied sciences.
