Objective

Upon completion of this course a student will be able to
• Analyse global business challenges and trends by applying disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills gained in the studies and through internships and field-based client work.
• Participate enthusiastically in inter- and multicultural settings, demonstrate team-building and leadership skills, and implement conflict resolution skills.
• Create, adopt and promote moral and ethical values, inclusive of diverse human, social, and cultural ethos, which find their meaningful applications in the business practices and decision-making. These values are synchronized with globally accepted standards and norms, like the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Content

Legal content of this course will range from subject matter of entering into contracts, legal aspects of negotiations, breach of contract and tort. Application of most important international treaties such as CISG, WCT and TRIPS conventions will be studied. The course will cover issues as general sources of law, choice of law, dispute resolution and jurisdiction. The emphasis will be in the interpretation of legal documents related to contract law and intellectual property law. Protection of copyrights and industrial rights like patents, design rights, trademarks will be in focus.

Completed basic business and management studies.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate (1):
Critical and Analytical Understanding Skills: Student shows some ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information in IPR related issues.
Applied Business skills: Student shows some but narrow skills in analyzing business challenges and trends and propose solutions for IPR.
Communications Skills: Student has some challenges in basic communications skills, techniques or in English.
Collaborative Skills: Student is lacking of proactive approach in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
ESR skills: Student is able to identify and assess only in superficial manner ESR-related issues for IPR and the action related to them and discuss some of their meaningful applications in legal issues.

Satisfactory (2):
Critical and Analytical Understanding: Student shows basic ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant for IPR.
Applied Business Skills: Student shows skills in analyzing business challenges and trends and propose solutions for IPR but the approach is vague or not supported with sufficient argumentation.
Communications Skills: Student is able to get his main message through when presenting his and his team’s ideas and findings in English but improvement would be needed.
Collaborative Skills: Student show some skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
ESR skills: Student is able to identify and assess some fundamental ESR-related issues for IPR and the action related to them and discuss some of their meaningful applications in legal issues.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3) –
Critical and Analytical Understanding: You show ability to analyze and evaluate business data and consider possible approaches and outcomes for business related to legal problems.
Applied Business skills: You show the average-level skills in analyzing business challenges and trends related to legal issues and propose viable solutions for arising problems.
Communications Skills: You are able to present your and your team’s ideas and findings in a clear manner in English
Collaborative Skills: You show skill in participating in a productive way in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.
ESR skills: You are able to identify and assess deeply and widely the ESR-related issues and to discuss their meaningful applications in legal matters.

Very Good (4) –
Critical and Analytical Skills: You show very good ability to analyze and evaluate possible outcomes related to legal problems.
Applied Business skills: Student show skills with merit in analyzing business challenges and trends related to legal issues and proposing practical solutions for arising problems.
Communications Skills: You are able to present your and you’re your team’s ideas and findings in a very good manner in English on a level clearly above average of your peers
Collaborative Skills: You are able to show in a very good manner skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and demonstrate teamwork skills.
ESR skills: Student are able to identify on a very good width and depth the ESR-related issues and discuss their meaningful applications in legal issues.

Excellent (5) –

ESR skills: You are able to identify and assess very deeply and widely the ESR-related issues and discuss their meaningful applications in legal issues.
