You will learn how to plan international athlete's career, how it is managed and promoted in a professional, legal and responsible manner.

The learning objective of the course
In this course you will familiarize yourself with the athlete-management relationship and its legal foundations.
You understand the key concepts and principles of contract formation. You learn to assess different contract types. You understand the logic and value of intellectual property rights as a revenue source.

Content

The course offers essential knowledge of different forms of managerial activities including various legal issues such as contracts, intellectual property rights, image rights, athlete brand development. The ethical code of conduct in sport will be highlighted including sustainable decision-making .

Time and location

The course start in online mode (two weeks) in ZOOM webinar starting the 14th of February. No teaching during week 9 ( winter break) and then course will continue as in class-teaching ending Friday 13th of May.
1,5 hour contac teaching in ZOOM/Panopto or in in class. The course will utilise Moodle workspace and it will be open on 11.2.2022. All course materials and info are available there.

Learning materials and recommended literature

The course instructor will provide the topical research articles and relevant international sources of law.

Teaching methods

Classroom teaching - lectures, workshops, exam
Online and virtual learning (case work, virtual discussions)
The primary mode of delivery is a combination of in-class activities on campus and on-line material. There will be available video materials to support opportunities for 24/7 learning. The in-class activities deepen the learning in the forms of tutorials, individual and group works, reflection and guidance.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The exam will be held in the end of course as an in class exam. Student has the right for 2 re-takes if the 1st would be failed.

Alternative completion methods

You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing.

Student workload

One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the course implementation.

Prerequisites

First year course of Management (JAMK Degree students) or equivalent course of basics of management completed.
