Objectives

The students are able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired especially during the specialized professional studies of mechanical engineering. They train the work methods of the industry, as well as the typical tasks of a product development or design engineer especially in the area of technical calculation.

Depending of the subject of the project, emphasis of the following could be different
EA-KN EUR-ACE Knowledge and understanding: During the project the student´s systematic knowledge and understanding of the essential basic aspects and definitions of structural analysis deepens. At the same time student´s awareness of the wider multidisciplinary context of engineering becomes concrete.

EA-EN EUR-ACE Engineering analysis: The student learn identify, formulate and solve engineering problems using taught methods. She/he learn to apply their knowledge and understanding when making analyses and select relevant analytic and modelling methods.

EA-EE EUR-ACE Engineering design: The student is able to apply their knowledge and understanding to develop and realise designs to meet defined and specified requirements. She/he has an understanding of structural analysis methodologies and an ability to use them.

TKNYR Competence in company finances and business: The student is trained to take business view into account when he/she makes choices.

YHTVI Communication skills: The student learns to communicate both orally and in writing in her/his mother tongue. She/he learns team working skills and is able to consider different kind of persons in the team.

Content

The students apply to practice the things learnt in the module and deepen their competence in a chosen subject.

Learning materials and recommended literature

Hand outs

Teaching methods

You do the project as a team work in groups of three to four students. You will follow the guidelines of the instructed project management. The subject is gotten from the industry or the coach of the course. The subject of the project and the instructions are given on the first face to face lectures and then you together with the coach deside the guidance meetings of the project (typically meeting every second week).

Exam dates and retake possibilities

Evaluation scale

0-5

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Adequate (1): The student has lacks in project´s complete implementation, the project has time table problem nor in implementation there has not been utilized knowledge given in other courses. Problem solving is simple and research work is very narrow. The student reaches only partly the goals which satisfied the client company. The report has not been written according to JAMK´s bachelor thesis report instructions. The student’s role in seminar presentation is humble.

Satisfactory (2): The student has slight lacks in project´s complete implementation, the project has little time table problem nor in implementation there has not been noticeable utilized knowledge given in other courses. Problem solving is simple and research work is narrow. The student reaches only partly the goals which satisfied the client company. The report has not been wholly written according to JAMK´s bachelor thesis report instructions. The student’s role in seminar presentation is humble.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Good (3): The student handles moderate demanding project´s implementation, the project has no time table problem and in implementation there has been utilized some knowledge given in other courses. Problem solving and research work are versatile. The student reach mainly the goals specified by the client company. The report has been written according to JAMK´s bachelor thesis report instructions. The student’s role in seminar presentation is significant.

Very good (4): As the previous level, however, the problem is more demanding and the implementation is more successful. In the project´s implementation there has been utilized very much knowledge given in other courses and research work is very versatile. The student reach very well the goals specified by the client company.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): As the previous level, however, the problem is specifically demanding and the implementation is very successful from which the client company´s representative is also agreed. From project you can identify features on innovation. During the project the student utilizes widely knowledge and understanding of other courses.
