Objective

Upon completion of the course
You will be able to understand business challenges and opportunities of international sport organisations and develop solutions to daily operations and communicate them professionally.

The learning objective of the course
In this course you will familiarize yourself with the managerial role and activities of local and international sport organisations.
You understand the key concepts and driving factors of the competition. You are aware of the legal liabilities arising from business decisions. You are familiar with the ethical code and norms of sport.

Content

An introduction to key aspects in sport management, such as sport commercialization, governance, organizational structures and strategies, HRM, internationalization, entrepreneurship and the specific features of sport business.

Location and time

1,5 contact session twice a week lecture and in class activities per week for 14 times. Additional videolectures via Moodle/Panopto. From 2nd week of September to 3rd week of December.

Teaching methods

Classroom teaching - lectures, workshops, exam
Online and virtual learning (case work, virtual discussions)
The primary mode of delivery is a combination of in-class activities on campus including both lectures and workshops There will be also some video materials to support study opportunities for distance learning. The in-class activities deepen the learning in the forms of tutorials, individual and group works, reflection and guidance. However, if the COVID-19 situation requires the learning will be supported by on-line tutorials.

Exam schedules

The exam will be held in the end of course as an in class exam. Final exam 1st week of December, Retakes at JAMK Exam-studio before end March next year. Student has the right for 2 re-takes if the 1st would be failed.

International connections

Visiting lecturers from JAMK partner universities and from industry.

Student workload

One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the course implementation and on each individual student.

You are able to identify and assess some ESR-related issues related to legal issues and the action related to them and discuss some of their applications related to sport organisations.
