Competences to be promoted in the course:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
You understand the role and significance of procurement in organizations and networks. You are familiar with the procurement process and the most significant special characteristics of different sectors. You understand the importance of total cost management and identify procurement opportunities from the perspective of responsibility and sustainable development. You have an overall picture of the opportunities and challenges of procurement in business development.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF TECHNOLOGY
You will identify opportunities to apply methods and techniques to carry out procurement professionally.

COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK
From a procurement perspective, you identify stakeholders with whom you can communicate effectively.

The main content will include
- Role of purchasing
- Purchasing process
- Purchasing in different business environments
- Sustainable purchasing
- The future of purchasing

Learning materials and recommended literature

Course book: Van Weele, A. (2010, 2015 or 2018 edition). Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.

Teaching methods

This course includes face-to-face lessons (Lectures, exercises, group works and/or learning assignments) at Rajakatu campus.

During the first three (3) weeks of the course there will be a compulsory assignment that needs to be returned in order to remain in the course. Those students who have not returned the assignment within the first three (3) weeks will be removed from the course.

We will use Moodle e-learning environment.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

There is no separate course exam on this course.
There are topic exams as assignments in this course. Topic exams can be made in Moodle study environment according to given time frame. Materials can be used during the theme exams.

Student workload

Planned workload per (1) course credit is 27 hours. For example in 5 credits course the workload is 135 hours. This includes lectures, assignments and independent study.

The overall assessment consists of the total points of the assignments indicated in the course.

1: You understand the basics and terminology, but you have significant lack of interpretation of key issues.

2: You understand the basics and terminology, but you have shortcomings in applying key issues.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

3: You have mastered the key aspects of the course. You have achieved a good level in the topics described in the learning outcomes and can apply the skills you have learned.

4: You have achieved an excellent level in almost all the subjects described in the learning outcomes and are able to apply and analyze the skills you have learned.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

5: You have achieved an excellent level in all the subjects described in the learning outcomes and are able to apply the skills you have learned in a critical and innovative way.
