Objectives

The object of the course
Creating new game and software product ideas and concepts are the bread and butter for an entrepreneur working in ICT development business. Ticorporate Demo Lab 1 provides you a hands-on experience on developing a product idea to a product concept.

It is important to know how new concepts and product ideas are created. During the course you will also get to present your pitch and ideas to your peers and industry professionals (if available). After completing this course, you have participated in creating a videogame or a software concept and a product idea in a cross-disciplinary environment.

The learning objectives of the course
When you complete this course, you are able to create a new software, or a game concept based on an idea. You grow understanding of concept development work, create a concept description and take responsibility of your teams work and performance. As an addition you will be able to assess the attractiveness of a concept and pick the best product idea to develop a concept from. You will also develop that concept and idea into a prototype. You apply sustainable development skills as well as innovation and project methods as part of development work.

Content

Ticorporate Demo Lab 1. consists of three parts.
- Finding and researching an idea and choosing one for concept development
- Developing the chosen idea to a concept pitch and a prototype with a team
- Presenting that concept and prototype to peers, lecturers and industry professionals (if available)

Alternative completion methods

Sinulla on oikeus hakea osaamisen tunnistamista ja tunnustamista, jos sinulla on aiemmin hankittua osaamista (esimerkiksi muualla suoritettuja korkeakouluopintoja), joita voidaan katsoa hyväksi nyt suoritettavaan tutkintoon.

Osaamisen tunnistamisessa ja tunnustamisessa on kolme päätapaa: hyväksilukeminen (korvaaminen, sisällyttäminen) ja muulla tavoin hankitun osaamisen tunnistaminen ja tunnustaminen sekä opinnollistaminen. Lisätietoa JAMKin tutkintosäännössä, luku 17.

Content scheduling

DemoLab 1 alkaa intensiivisesti. Ensimmäiset kolme viikkoa kurssista ideoidaan, konseptoidaan sekä luodaan prototyyppi ryhmissä. Sen jälkeen ryhmät työskentelevät itsenäisesti ja tapaavat noin kahden viikon välein erilaisissa Scrum seremonioissa. Tällaisia ovat esimerkiksi retrospektiivi, backlog grooming ja sprintin suunnittelu.

Kurssi päättyy loppuesitykseen joulukuussa.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Sufficient 1: You know the basic principles of concept creation. You know how to work in a group to achieve a common goal. You know how to prepare a presentation and deliver a pitch.

Satisfactory 2: You understand the principles of concept creation and development. You have comprehension of working in a group and about the different roles. You are able to prepare a presentation and deliver a pitch. You are able to participate in creating a prototype.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Good 3: You understand the principles of concept creation and development and you can apply that knowledge to a project and in creating a prototype. You have comprehension of working in a group and about the different roles. You can work productively. You understand what areas of presentation are important and use that knowledge to deliver a comprehensive pitch.

Very Good 4: You understand the principles of concept creation and development thoroughly and you will be able to analyze the impact of different areas in creating a prototype. You can analytically think about your group and work productively. You can analytically think about your presentation to create a comprehensive pitch.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

Exceptional 5: You can analytically discuss about the principles of concept creation and present and defend (based on knowledge and evidence) your concept. You can also use that knowledge to create a prototype. You can question the presented information and give valid options. You can analytically think about your group, and work productively. You can analytically think about your presentation to create an analytical and comprehensive pitch. You can extend and widen your skills and knowledge on your own.

Prerequisites

Understanding of project management and project processes. Basic understanding of concept creation. Completed basic studies of own field.
