Objective
Purpose of the Course:
In this course, you will explore future megatrends and analyze key development trends relevant to regional development. You will also become familiar with practices related to foresight and future research. The course supports your ability to act as an active developer in a changing society. Together with a team formed from students in your regional group, you will examine the roles and opportunities of vocational education in shaping the future of society and working life, starting from the specific needs of your own region. The development task can be carried out in collaboration with educational institutions or working life actors, and may include a pilot or experiment. The work emphasizes information gathering, collaboration, critical thinking, and a culture of experimentation.
In this course, you will develop your understanding of the operational environment in three key areas: societal competence, institutional competence, and working life competence.
Learning Objectives:
During the course, you will develop your operational environment competence as follows:
Societal Competence
You can analyze megatrends and future skill needs, and assess their impact on the development of vocational education.
Institutional Competence
You can identify and analyze the practices, structures, and development needs of educational institutions.
You are able to plan and implement development work in the context of an educational institution.
Working Life Competence
You will learn project work as well as collaboration and networking skills.

Future Research and Development
- Megatrends as part of a critical analysis of the operational environment.
Regional perspective: How do megatrends influence regional development? What specific issues can be identified in regional development?
- Building a Sustainable Future for Working Life
- Future skill needs in working life
- Regional actors and networks, the roles and responsibilities of educational institutions in future development
- Regional strategies, regional education policy and its priorities
- A future-oriented development task carried out by teams in the region.
The task may focus on the societal roles of education, the development of working life, and/or internal development within the educational institution, depending on the team's choice.

Learning materials can be found in the Moodle learning environment.
Teaching methods
The course is implemented in a mixed-method implementation. The course is based on learning circle-, peer- and independent work.
Student workload
The course is worth 6 credits, which corresponds to 162 hours of student work.

Assessment Criteria (Pass Level)
Societal Competence:
- You demonstrate an understanding of the role of educational institutions and teachers as societal influencers and can examine teaching as part of a broader societal context.
Institutional competence:
- You demonstrate readiness to act as an active developer in your work community and understand institutional operations as part of the education system.
Working Life Competence:
- You demonstrate understanding of the connections between education and working life, can develop your teaching in a work-oriented way, and are able to work as part of a team in project-based development tasks.
Further information
The assessment is based on learning objectives, qualitative and criteria-based. The assessment material consists of the learning tasks of the course and the self-assessment task. The assessment decision is made by the teacher educator when all learning tasks have been completed.
